About the Project
OCBC Cycle is Singapore’s largest mass cycling event since 2009, championing cycling as a year-round way of life and giving cyclists the opportunity to cycle on closed roads with scenic views.
After a two-year hiatus of physical events, OCBC Cycle 2022 came back with both competitive and non-competitive physical rides while keeping the virtual component. This is the first time OCBC Cycle sees both physical and virtual events in a single event.
Between 7 May to 6 June, OCBC Cycle 2022 saw over 6,000 participants across four different categories – City Ride, Speedway Championships, Spin Ride by CRU and Virtual Rides.
Solution
Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, we worked closely with OCBC to find a way to bring back the community-loved Mass Ride and Speedway Championships while keeping within the existing government regulations. In-depth Safe Management Measures were implemented to safeguard the health and safety of all participants, where we deep dived into our plans to ensure all aspects of the event went over and beyond prevailing guidelines. Event packs continued to be mailed to participants to prevent any unnecessary gatherings.
In this year’s edition, we introduced new categories to open the event to a wider cycling community. For the first time, we partnered homegrown fitness group, CRU, to introduce indoor rhythmic cycling. On top of the in-studio classes available throughout the event period, 100 spin bicycles were brought to the event ground at OCBC Square for a refreshing experience, where over 1,200 participated across 7 and 8 May.
Additionally, a Virtual Ride category called the “Team Challenge Virtual Ride” featured a unique challenge where teams of four can compete for the honour of clocking the longest distance during the Virtual Ride period. The top 3 teams with the longest distance clocked during the event period won prizes worth up to $800.
